However my experience was not as awesome. Right after I got divorced back in 2002 and lived in Vegas a bunch of my friends thought it would be a good idea for me to get back in the dating scene. Put your profile online they said, it will be fun they said. Here's how it really went down. I pimped myself out on a couple of dating sites. On my profile I was honest with what I was looking for and bought into the commercials that stated this site could find my soul mate as soon as I entered my credit card information and paid my monthly fee. Unfortunately I only found guys that said they wanted something serious just to find out that the only thing they were looking for was the bedroom. Most of the dates went like this:
- Meet for a drink
- Listen to the guy tell me about how charitable he was and how much he loved his friends and family
- Think that this might actually be a decent guy
- Quickly get reminded that he is not a nice guy when he tries to get me to go home with him
- Leave disappointed thinking that there are no good men left in the world that even entertain the thought of realtionship lasting more than 24 hours
- Meet for a drink
- Listen to the guy talk about the time he saved puppies from a burning building (ok maybe not that exact story but you get the point) and how much he wants to get serious with "the one"
- Listen to him say how cool that he thought I was. That I wasn't like anyone that he had ever met. Tells me about an event that is coming up and he wants me to go with him
- Get my hopes up when we get ready to leave and he says that he can't wait to see me again and is going to call me with the details
- Wait by the phone for the call
- Wait
- Ensure that I still have some bars of service on my cell phone in all areas of the house
- Wait
- Have a friend call me to test to see if my phone still rings
- Deal with the rejection - not very well
