My Freak Flag is Flying High!

Yes, yes, yes, its true – I am a total dork.  Not when I first meet people but once I’m comfortable I let my freak flag fly!  So I thought I’d share a funny story with you all.  I met my husband (a.k.a. Hunny) 4 ½ years ago on a blind date.  So before I go on with my story let me just say that blind dates working out are not urban legends.   I’m that friend of a friend’s nail lady’s friend that went on a blind date and ended up getting married.  It can happen people!  Anyways after we had been seeing each other for almost 2 months he took me out on my birthday to one of my favorite restaurants about an hour away.  We had a great time and I had had about 3 glasses of wine.  We had taken my Jeep (Old Blue - told you I named all my cars) and in true dork fashion I had a CD in the car that I had made of all my favorite jams that I would listen to by myself again let me repeat that – by MYSELF.  These were the kind of songs that you don’t let a soul know that you have on your ipod much less that you rock out too.  Well I’m feeling a nice buzz, it’s my birthday, and I’m really liking this awesome guy that had just taken me on a great date.  Who knows why but I bust out this CD and put it on track 9.  Oh Lord.  Track 9 is a favorite from one hit wonder 'N 2 Deep' from the 90’s called ‘Back to the Hotel’.  It’s a rap song and I happen to know every word.  Can you see where this story going…..  Even though Joe and I had been together almost every day since we had met I really hadn't let him see my full dork potential.  He had seen little bits here and there but nothing like this.  So the song comes on and I start rapping and I’m talking full on like I was Snoop Dog with hand gestures and everything.  Joe is  kinda laughing but I’m not really even paying attention to him.  I was giving my own concert and honey it was fun.  We get back to his apartment and he says that he wants to have a ‘talk’.  Oh God.  The dreaded ‘talk’.  I’m thinking this is it we are breaking up.  I’m just too much dork from him to handle.  He sits down and takes a deep breath.  I know that this is it – needless to say my buzz is gone.  The mention of having a ‘talk’ sobered me up real quick!  He starts to speak but is having a hard time getting the words out and finally blurts out I LOVE YOU!!  It was the first time that he had told me.  Apparently he likes my dorkinessJ  Whew – dodged that bullet.  Moral of the story besides the fact that I have questionable taste in music and I can rap – be yourself and don’t be afraid to let your inner dork come to the surfaceJ  Have a great day peeps!

Cake is Rockin My World!

Ya baby!!  Give me some cake!  So cake is one of my weaknesses – it’s like my kryptonite.  The yummy smells, the delicious sweet taste that melts in your mouth and makes all your troubles go away –need I go on?  I figured that when I started Weight Watchers that cake would be off limits.  And before you say it – yes I know that on Weight Watchers you can eat whatever you want.  But that is not entirely true – I mean let’s get real – if you only have 29 points and a piece of cake is 14 um that does not leave much left over for anything else if you plan to not starve the rest of the day.  So again I say cake was basically off limits.  Until I found a recipe online that is seriously rocking my world right now.  I am not creative enough to make this up on my own but I’m sure glad that someone didJ  It’s a called a 3 2 1 Cake.  So now I can have my cake and eat it too - its only 2 points.  And for someone like me that has to have a little something sweet after dinner this is perfect.  Plus you can really get creative with the toppings.  My husband hates anything that has the word diet it in or is a Weight Watcher recipe - he automatically decides that its gross.  But he loves these little cakes as much as I do.  So this recipe is hubs approved!
3 2 1 Cake
1  Angel Food cake mix (one of the mixes HAS to be angel food)
1  Any other flavor of cake mix that you want

Mix the two dry cake mixes together in a Ziploc or storage container.  Do not add any other ingredients to the mixes.  Once you are ready to make one of these little gems get out a small coffee mug or ramekin.  Add 3 tablespoons of the dry mix to the cup add 2 tablespoons of water and stir.  Microwave for 1 minute and viola a little cake all for you!

The one pictured below is a yellow cake with berries and fat free Cool Whip on top.  The berries are zero points and so is the Cool Whip because I only used 2 tablespoons.  Total yumminess.

Try it out!

Day One (again)

Ok before I get all “today is the first day of the rest of my life” I have to say that today was hard.  I am really trying with all of my might that this will be the last ‘first’ day that I will have to go through.  I’m not saying that I will never eat something that I shouldn’t ever again.  But I am hoping that today is the last time that I have to start over from scratch, the last time that I look in the mirror and hate the person staring back at me, the last time that I tell my husband, family, and friends that “I’m serious this time”, the last time that I am embarrassed when I am introduced to someone, last time I look with disgust at all the clothes in my closet that don’t fit and the last time that I have to write a post like this.

Something Un-clicked

So here’s the deal – I am not happy to report that all that motivation that I had a month ago has gone far far away for the past few weeks.  I HATE that feeling – you know the one – where you are so determined to do something and just know that this is the time that it’s gonna happen.  Only to lose that feeling and go right back to where you were before you started.  If I had a dollar for every time that has happened to me I could give Donald Trump a run for his money.  So here is the truth - I fell off the wagon in fact the wagon has run me over.  Now that I’m brushing off the wagon wheel marks I’m realizing that if I actually stuck with Weight Watchers and just walking that I could lose weight, even if it was only one pound a week that would still be 50 pounds in one year.  Now I don’t know about you but I am sitting in the same place that I was last year wishing that I was on the path to skinny-ville.  Losing 50 pounds would put me at my goal weight.  So here is the simple math: Me-50punds = happy meJ  Sounds simple enough right?!?
Tomorrow I am going to change my life – I am going to get healthy

I've Lost 100 Pounds

Ok....ok....not all at once but over the last 10 years I have lost weight and re-gained the same 10 pounds.  I've totaled it up and it’s around 100 pounds give or take.  Now I don't know if it’s just me but I started to think WTF?!?  I guess I had never thought about it that way.  Apparently I am really good at losing weight I just suck at keeping it off.  Sigh.  So I'm more determined than ever to get this weight off and KEEP it off.  I've started back on Weight Watchers.  The first week I feel totally full and satisfied said no one ever!!  The first week is definitely the toughest.  It’s the weekends that do me in.  My husband loves to go out to eat on Fridays and Saturdays – well I can’t lie – I love to go too!  It’s hard to make good choices - I hate fish so that is out of the question.  Plus I have a feeling that if I liked fish the part that I would like would be the butter!!  I am a sucker for the bread or anything that they put on the table before you eat.  Those are where the points really add up.  Now I know what you all are (ok one follower) is thinking – why don’t I just ask our server to not bring the bread or chips to the table.  Well that’s a good question.  In case you haven’t heard I have no willpower, not even enough to tell the server not to bring the goodies.  But I have got to get it together – this is pretty lame if I can’t say no to a little piece of bread.  Well this weekend will be the true test.  I’ll let you know how it goes and if anyone was hurt in the process, ha!
So I just read somewhere that whether you walk a mile or run a mile that you burn the same amount of calories.  Why the hell hasn’t someone told me about this before now?  Here I am dying on the treadmill when I could just walk the same distance with the same results.  I realize that it will take me twice as long but that is better than the feeling I get when I’m trying to jog.  I didn’t lose one pound while I was jogging.  And let me say that was totally my fault, I was not watching what I was eating – that was pretty lame on my part.  I mean doesn’t 25 minutes of jogging cancel out a chocolate donut washed down with a mocha?  Well it should!  I really wish I could find an exercise that I loved to do - any suggestions?  P.S…..I'm not into hiking or anything where I might encounter a wild animal, need a safety harness, or break a nail – I’m a city girl and the mountains are lovely to LOOK at but I do not need to go up there.   I mean I don’t want bears, snakes, giant bugs feeling the need to get in touch with the city and take a tour of my house so why should I feel the need to get in touch with nature and go up there.  I don’t look at it as not loving the outdoors but rather a mutual respect between me and the bears/snakes to stay out of each other’s homes, hehe.
